HEARING ASSESSMENT

Painless non-invasive hearing test that measures a person’s ability to hear different sounds.

  • PURE TONE AUDIOMETRY: Measures the softest or least audible sounds that a person can hear while wearing a headphone and a range of sounds directed to one ear at a time.
  • BEHAVIOURAL RESPONSE AUDIOMETRY: Involves presenting sounds to a baby and observing their responses.
  • TYMPANOMETRY: Objective test of middle ear functioning which evaluates the condition of the middle ear and mobility of the eardrum.
  • REFLEXOMETRY: Monitor the middle ear muscle reflex by measuring the pressure change in the middle ear that occurs in response to loud sounds. This also helps in diagnosing auditory problems arising from higher centers.
  • EUSTACHIAN TUBE FUNCTION TESTS: Assess the functioning of the eustachian tube.

Assess a patient’s auditory ability using speech signals which are much more representative of everyday listening experiences than pure tones. Measuring the ability to perceive speech gives the clinician a clearer picture of the patient’s functional hearing ability and is extremely valuable to predict a patient’s success with hearing aids. Speech audiometric tests include speech recognition thresholds, speech discrimation scores. Comfortable level identifications etc.

  • COCHLEAR PATHOLOGIC AND RETRO COCHLEAR PATHOLOGIC TESTS: SISI. TDT. SPIN. PIPB: helps in differentially diagnosing cochlear and retrocochlear pathologies.
  • AUDITORY PROCESSING DISORDERS TEST: Individuals with normal structure and function of outer, middle or inner ear but cannot process the information in the same way as others do, which leads to difficulties in recognizing and interpreting sounds.
